2009 Action Directives of the District of the United States In the spirit of co-responsibility described in our Constitutions, and in the spirit of generosity so much urged by our Mother Foundress, we have identified six ‘Action Directives’ which call for six committees or task forces to assist us in responding to particular needs in our district life. We envision that implementing these Action Directives will be undertaken in a discerning dialogue with the members of the district, not only to establish these working groups with clearly identified responsibilities, but also as these committees and task forces engage in their work. We expect that a member of each of these committees and task forces will be identified as the coordinator of the group’s work, and that each of these working groups will make sensible use of the experience, knowledge, skills and materials of others besides ourselves. _____________________________________________________________________________ The Spiritual Heritage Committee The District Team is called on to appoint a committee which will gather and provide resources which can help us deepen our rootedness in our ICM spiritual heritage. It is expected that the manner and occasions for using these resources will normally be taken up in each community. While the desire and need for these spiritual heritage resources may be ongoing, in view of our preparation for the upcoming General Chapter it is expected that this committee will be established and able to begin its work by the beginning of June 2009. _____________________________________________________________________________ The Awareness and Sensitivity Committee The District Team is called on to appoint a committee which will gather and develop resources and propose processes to help us grow in respecting our multicultural backgrounds and the uniqueness of each individual sister, and to assist us in greater mutual understanding when we welcome new or returning members of the district and new community members whenever transitions occurs. ___________________________________________________________________________ The Guatemala–US Connections Committee The District Team is called on to appoint a committee to help us prepare for possible future collaboration with the District of Guatemala, by promoting and assisting us in methods of interpersonal and inter-district communication between the sisters in Guatemala and the USA. Especially in view of the regional meeting of the Americas scheduled for February 2010, we see a timeliness for the committee to begin our ‘inter-district conversations’ within the next three months. _____________________________________________________________________________ The Health Care Planning Committee The District Team is called on to appoint a committee which will ® develop and propose a revised statement of our understanding of various levels of health care ® develop and propose a clear district policy and set of procedures which identify the steps in a discernment process with the sisters involved regarding a sister’s transition into a certain level of health care the levels of health care that can be properly provided for at our 15th Street residence the financial and personnel resources needed to provide these levels of health care how the care and supervision of sisters is maintained in the various levels of health care In view of the current renovation project at our 15th Street residence, the appointment and the work of this committee is understood to be a priority for effectively addressing the present and future health care needs of our district. __________________________________________________________________________ The 15th Street Property Committee The District Team is called on to appoint a committee which will review issues related to the uses of our 15th street property, and gather information from professional resources as well as from sisters in the district in order to explore our options in the current renovation project. The committee will make recommendations on processes to be used in making decisions about significant aspects of the 15th Street renovations, and on a timeline for reaching these decisions. Since it is understood that certain major aspects of the renovation will require the approval of the General Team and will also involve city permits, the committee will focus its work on preparing recommendations for these final authorizations, and on engaging sisters in the district as various questions and clarities emerge in the planning process. In view of the current renovation project at our 15th Street residence, the appointment and the work of this committee is understood to be a priority for effectively exercising our stewardship for the 15th Street property and for effectively supporting the quality of our ICM life. _________________________________________________________________________
The Personal Information Task Force The District Team is called on to appoint a task force of two sisters to devise tools and processes for gathering information from each member of the district regarding personal finances (patrimony, assets, wills, life insurance); health (medications, doctors, medical insurance, advance medical directives, durable power of attorney); last wishes (living wills / organ donation, funeral preferences); family contacts (names, current addresses, phone numbers, email addresses). The task force will organize this and other pertinent information, in an electronic data base to be maintained in the District Office, along with all legally-required signed documents.
